From his latest EP to his future aspirations, Spenser has a lot to share with us. Let’s dive in and get to know more about his journey, inspirations, and what drives him every day.
Q1: What is your name and what city do you rep?
Spenser Smith: My name is Spenser Smith and I rep New York City.
Q2: What’s your most memorable moment of this year 2024 so far?
Spenser Smith: My most memorable moment from 2024 is completing my EP. It’s been a significant milestone in my career.
Q3: What’s the meaning behind your latest EP and its title?
Spenser Smith: The meaning behind my EP is to convey human emotion and expression through the story of my journey from 2020 to present day. The title came to me one day when I was coming home from a job interview in NY at a recording studio. Initially, it was going to be a 2-pack A side & B side project. However, as time progressed and my skills grew during the pandemic up to 2022, I began adding new records to the EP. When I finalized the production, I solidified the name of the EP, which helped define it sonically.
Q4: Any upcoming projects that you can speak on?
Spenser Smith: After I release my EP, I plan on performing at an upcoming festival with one of my artists, shout out to TOKA Before The World Ends. I also plan on releasing new music after a few months to keep my brand fresh.
Q5: What goals would you like to accomplish in the coming year?
Spenser Smith: I would like to accomplish my goal of opening my recording studio and prepping everything for the grand opening later in the year. I also aim to acquire more production placements with new artists I’ve been keeping an eye on and connect with more artists before the year ends.
Q6: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would that be?
Spenser Smith: My dream collaborations include JAY Z, Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Griselda, Alchemist, Tyler The Creator, Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, and Havoc of Mobb Deep. As for up-and-coming artists, I want to connect with Teeg Austin. He’s one of the best artists I’ve heard in a long time. I feel we could make great music together. I’m also always ready to work with GotoMar$, TOKA, Mari Niko, and Perktunes. Collaborating with artists who genuinely enjoy connecting is essential, as well as working with those who bring out untapped potential.
Q7: At the end of the day, all artists have something that drives them. What’s your daily motivation?
Spenser Smith: My daily motivation is always giving back to the people. Without your listeners and fans, your career means nothing. I always try to remember why I continue this path, understanding the fulfillment music brings. Whether I’m working on music for myself, producing a record for another, or working on a business venture revolving around music, as long as I know I’m fulfilling my life’s task, that’s all that matters to me.
Q8: When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
Spenser Smith: I knew I was going to make music professionally since I was in the 12th grade. When it came to selecting a career, I accepted that I wasn’t academically gifted unless it was in English or business. When I decided to pursue music, of course, people weren’t supportive due to the probability of failure. But I stayed focused on my dreams and worked diligently to become the man I aspire to be.
Q9: Any last words for the readers?
Spenser Smith: Never stop pursuing your dreams. Never settle for another person’s benefit to limit your attention. Always utilize your god-given gifts that you have been blessed with every day to the fullest.
