Dismissing All Those Dumb DCU ‘Booster Gold’ Casting Rumors

In an example of how rumors are often started by a bit of misinformation, I give you the case of Kumail Nanjiani who showed his interest in the upcoming James Gunn led Superman movie by retweeting Gunn’s tweet and putting the single word, “in”. This has set off an on-line firestorm with people assuming the comedian/actor who buffed up to play Kingo in The Eternals for Marvel was now joining the DC Universe and would appear IN Superman.

The next thing is someone put a story together as an official rumor, but that wouldn’t be good enough that Nanjiani was in the movie, he needed to be playing an important character, one with a similar personality to what we’ve seen the actor do… which led them to claim that Nanjiani would be playing Booster Gold. Now the story is being carried by multiple sites, all of which are saying that since Gunn hasn’t debunked it, this must be true. Gunn, who is currently working on a movie and may be too busy to respond to speculation, not denying something doesn’t mean it’s true.

Gunn has also said that there will be no casting until a script is done and there has been no talk about any project with Booster Gold in it. Oh, and Nanjiani has gone back onto social media to clarify that he meant he was in for seeing the movie, not that he was cast in the movie. I’m sure that won’t do much to stop the rumor though.
