Elderly couple fatally struck by vehicle in Allentown | Lehigh Valley Regional News

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said an elderly husband and wife were fatally struck by a vehicle in Allentown on Friday night.










According to the coroner, the unnamed 83-year-old man and 80-year-old woman were out for an evening walk when they were struck at approximately 8:20 p.m. near West Chew and North Main streets.

A 69 News freelancer at the scene said an area of the intersection was taped off. There was an SUV behind the tape with significant front end damage.

Images from the scene also show that debris was strewn across the road, and a shoe was lying the roadway.

Police say the driver remained at the scene of the crash.

The identities of the couple have not been released and are pending notification of their next-of-kin. 

Allentown Police statement

The Allentown Police Department released the following statement about the crash on Saturday afternoon:

“On Friday, May 3rd, 2024, around 8:30PM, Officers from the Allentown Police Department were dispatched to the area of North Main Street and West Chew Street for a motor vehicle accident involving two pedestrians. Upon arrival officers encountered two individuals with serious injuries and began rendering aid. The two injured individuals were transported by Allentown EMS to a local hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The accident is being investigated by the Allentown Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit in coordination with the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.

There will be no further comment at this time related to this investigation.”
