J.I.D, one of the frontrunners of the Atlanta Rap sound, has recently released his latest song ‘WRK’ off his upcoming album. With dog-bark like chants on the hook yelling “work”, the track is reminiscent of an earlier track called ‘Stick.’
With that J.I.D flavor locked, it is clear that he’s hungry as ever and looking to outdo his DiCaprio projects along with The Never Story and The Forever Story era.
With top tier rapping year after year, this really might be the year J.I.D gets his due as a rapper that can go toe to toe with anyone. The initial Kendrick comparisons to his vocal delivery is something that has evolved over time in the best way possible — perhaps it was a good challenge for J.I.D as well to really switch things up.
Opening the track with speedometer bars, the entire track is a barrage of bars over minimalist trap production and hooks. The schemes too employ a plethora of internals and corner bends — bending words beyond the bar to deliver his signature jittery flow over these types of instrumental. Check out the track below!
