In a recent episode of The Shop, the legendary LL Cool J did not hold back on criticism for Andre 3000‘s off-kilter flute album, I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A “Rap” Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.

The rapper prefaced the discussion by declaring his absolute love for Andre 3000’s penmanship, only to dismiss his flute heavy album. “His bars is all the way up, I’m very clear… not the flute, B”, he said, talking to fellow speakers Lena Waithe, Teddy Swims & Mo Gilligan. Explaining his reasons when met with criticism and disbelief, LL went on to explain how it is absurd to want to like such a thing. Inserting himself into the conversation to better qualify the argument, he acknowledged how nobody would want to hear a “violin album” from himself either.

Quick to switch back to praise, LL expressed the hidden desire behind his comment; a joint rap album with fellow Outkast rapper, Big Boi. “Or do a solo album!”, he added quickly. The lighthearted conversation turned borderline hilarious when LL asked Waithe to name one song off the album to prove she actually cared about the album, as she claimed to. LL further complimented Big Boi’s penmanship as well, marvelling at how just one verse from Big Boi is so full of material and inspiration that it could very well be easily made, should they decide to.
