Louisiana rapper NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, finds himself entangled in a legal web as he faces multiple charges related to a prescription fraud ring. The Cache County Jail in Utah has been his temporary home since his arrest in April.
NBA YoungBoy’s multimillion-dollar mansion near Huntsville, Weber County, became the focal point of a police investigation. Authorities executed a search warrant, leading to Gaulden’s arrest.
Pattern of unlawful activity: A second-degree felony.
Identity fraud: Fifteen counts of third-degree felonies.
Forgery: Fifteen counts of third-degree felonies.
Unlawful conduct: Fifteen counts of a class A misdemeanor.
The allegations stem from a prescription fraud operation involving promethazine with codeine—a controlled substance that has been heavily abused throughout Cache County and Utah. Gaulden’s alleged involvement in orchestrating this fraudulent scheme has serious legal implications.
In a recent bail reduction hearing at the 1st District Court in Logan, Judge Spencer Walsh set NBA YoungBoy’s bail at $100,000. Gaulden waived his right to a preliminary hearing, opting to proceed directly to trial. His arraignment is scheduled for July 1, where he will be asked to enter a plea. If he posts bail, he can attend the hearing remotely.
This isn’t NBA YoungBoy’s first brush with the law. In October 2021, he was under house arrest due to separate federal weapons charges stemming from an incident in Baton Rouge. Additionally, in 2020, he and 15 others were arrested in Louisiana after police received a tip about a music video shoot involving guns. Clearly, Gaulden’s legal battles have been ongoing.
On April 26, Weber County’s 2nd District Court filed additional charges against Gaulden. These include possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person (a second-degree felony) and two counts of fraudulently obtaining a prescription (a class A misdemeanor). Investigators reportedly found a gun during a search of his home, along with prescription medications obtained fraudulently. A nonbailable warrant was issued for his arrest in this case on April 30.
The news of NBA YoungBoy’s legal troubles has sent shockwaves through the music industry and his fan base. The case has raised questions about the challenges faced by young artists in the music industry and the need for better support systems to help them navigate the pressures of fame and success.
As NBA YoungBoy prepares for his trial, the music world waits with bated breath to see how the case will unfold. The outcome will not only impact the rapper’s career but also serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability and the need for a more compassionate approach to addressing the challenges faced by young artists in the industry.
