Sheck Wes, the rapper who became a sensation post his hit song ‘Mo Bamba’ that even inspired Kanye West, has just released a new song with rapper Travis Scott. This is the kind of collaboration everyone expected, and Travis is the perfect person to compliment Sheck’s sound.
The track name is basically an abbreviation for ‘I love my b***h,’ which is a repeating vocal motif for a sizeable chunk of the record. Almost a hook, both Wes and Scott come back to it after their usual creative escapades.
In fact, the track left some fans disappointed online, as this not being result of an in-studio collaboration was palpable. “Travis Scott needs to stop sending in features via email,” one user on X remarked, referring to the mechanical quality of Travis’ verse.
At the same time, one can argue that the mechanical quality is nothing but the result of an artist perfectly in tune with the sound they’ve established over years of hardwork. If you do something too perfect, over and over again, it just sounds mechanical and not novel. But is it asking too much when you want to hear new ideas from your favourite artist?
