In a clip from Steve Stoute‘s upcoming interview with Shannon Sharpe for his Club Shay Shay podcast, the music mogul shares his thoughts on what led to Dame Dash’s strained relationship with Jay-Z. According to him, Dame frequently displayed immature behavior and never truly matured.
Stoute described him as a “gigantic almost not” and said that “he blew it” regarding his relationship with the Brooklyn rapper. “He had Jay-Z. He had the most important artist of a generation.”
“Dame wouldn’t change,” Stoute said later in the conversation. “The way he spoke to people, the way he treated people. He was angry. He was angry because he had a strong perspective about his business philosophy … People were becoming less beholden to him. But he was unaware of it.”
Stoute, Jay-Z, and Dame Dash share a long and complicated history. Jay-Z founded Roc-A-Fella Records alongside Dame Dash in 1994. Meanwhile, Stoute helped the 4:44 rapper land one of his first big brand deals with Rebook. He would later partner with Jay to launch Translation Advertising in 2008.
