Texas couple finds newborn with umbilical cord abandoned on trail
In a remarkable act of heroism, a Texas couple stumbled upon an abandoned newborn while walking on a trail in Katy, Texas. So, she immediately sprang into action to save her life. The newborn girl was found with her umbilical cord still attached. She was wrapped in a blanket and left on the ground early Saturday morning.
Discovery and Immediate Action
Daniela Fedele and her husband were enjoying a morning walk along Casa Martin Drive when they noticed a towel on the ground. Their three-year-old daughter started to approach it. As a result, prompting Daniela to look closer and realize the blanket was moving.
“I noticed two little feet moving,” Fedele said. “I yelled to my husband, ‘Oh my God, a baby!’”
The couple acted swiftly. Fedele called 911 while her husband carefully picked up the baby and moved her to a shaded area to protect her from the sun. Their rapid response was captured by a nearby surveillance camera. In addition, it recorded a man abandoning the infant and fleeing the scene.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Harris County Sheriff’s deputies received the emergency call around 9 a.m. and arrived at the scene promptly. The newborn was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in good condition.
Sergeant Juan Garcia, of the Child Abuse Unit, praised the couple’s quick thinking:
“The witnesses walking with their daughter and dogs were a blessing. Their actions saved the newborn, who was freshly born that morning.”
Authorities have launched an investigation. Also, they are actively searching for the suspect, described as a young Hispanic or white male with a slim build and fair complexion. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and gray pants. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Fedele expressed her shock and outrage over the abandonment, highlighting the existence of safe alternatives for surrendering infants. “You can drop it off at a fire station, a police station, a hospital. Don’t leave the baby,” she urged.
