Rich The Kid got hit with legal documents for an unpaid lawsuit as he entered his album release party this week.
TMZ captured the moment on camera when it went down on Monday (July 15). According to the outlet, the documents are from attorney Baruch C. Cohen on behalf of jeweler Peter Marco – who sued Rich for $234k back in 2020 over an alleged unpaid tab.
At the time of the suit, Marco said Rich had been getting jewelry from him since 2017 – including diamond necklaces, crosses and a couple of Patek Philippes – and the jeweler says that though Rich did make payments for a while, he eventually stopped.
Marco claims that Rich continued ordering more and he continued to deliver, until the tab ballooned to what it is now. Allegedly, Rich still has yet to pay up.
Rich The Kid was celebrating the forthcoming release of his new album Life’s A Gamble, which is due out on Friday (July 19). The 18-track effort is executive produced by Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, and includes features from Peso Pluma, Offset, Rob49, French Montana, Chief Keef, BIA, the late TakeOff and Quavo – as well as Ye and Ty.
“Carnival” from Ye and Ty’s VULTURES album is also included.
Earlier this month, Rich The Kid shocked fans when he shared a text of Kanye announcing his retirement from music – but it may not actually be true.
In a screenshot to Rich’s Instagram Story, Ye wrote, “I am retiring from professional music. Not sure what else to do.”
Rich goes on to try to convince him to stay, writing: “Retire? Why? How ? The ppl NEED you the music you & Ty & we have made was the BIGGEST STAMP in culture to this date in 2024. Drop Ye about mine & V[ultures]2 and we do it all over again the kids need you big bra fasho maybe some time to chill but retiring ain’t it.”
He soon deleted it, however, then headed to X to promote the new album.
“ACTUALLY WE DROPPING FRIDAY 7/19,” he wrote with laughing emojis in response to a post from XXL that shared Ye’s retirement text.
The LP will be Rich’s first album in four years. His last effort, Boss Man, dropped in March 2020. Lil Baby, DaBaby, Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Lil Tjay, NBA YoungBoy, Quavo and more made appearances, but the project failed to make a big splash and soon dropped off the charts following a No. 24 debut on the Billboard 200.
